From ABBA to Bee Gees: The Sound of Disco
Blending genres like soul, funk and early electronic sounds, disco music emerged in the late ’60s in NYC. In the early days, the genre was particularly popular among Black, Latino and queer communities. By the late ’70s, it had been catapulted to the mainstream thanks to nightclubs like Studio 54 and movies like Saturday Night Fever— the iconic 1977 blockbuster featuring John Travolta’s famous pompadour and Bee Gees tracks like “How Deep Is Your Love” and “Stayin’ Alive”.
