These Sydney Venues Are Offering Free Meals To Hospo Workers Affected By The Lockdown

No questions asked.

As Sydney entered a two-week lockdown last week, many hospitality venues had to shut their doors. Historically, casual workers have been most affected at times like these. If you’re going without shifts because of the snap lockdown, The Duke of Enmore and the Oxford Tavern are offering one free takeaway per day until the end of the two-week lockdown period.

You can pick from a specially designed menu that also includes vegan and vegetarian options to suit everyone’s needs. The Duke will also be shouting one free pickleback shot per day to help keep those lockdown blues at bay. The pickleback shot consists of a shot of Jameson followed by a shot of pickle brine — the ideal mid-week pick me up.

Odd Culture group general manager James Thorpe said: “Casual staff are the backbone of our industry, and unfortunately they are the first to face shift uncertainty when restrictions affect their workplaces. For some, this can mean the difference between eating or not, or paying rent or not, which we know is truly scary stuff. Offering these free meals is the least we can do to help our little corner of the world get through this latest Covid hiccup.”

While this is a first for The Duke, The Oxford Tavern offered free meals to affected hospitality workers throughout the lockdown last year.

The Taphouse at Darlinghurst is offering a free chicken schnitzel or a vegetarian pasta puttanesca along with a shot of bourbon if you’re doing it tough in lockdown. Simply head down there and ask for a ‘hospo meal.’

Sneaky Possum in Chippendale will also offer free meals if you have been affected by the lockdown.

If you have the means, you can show your support by ordering takeaway from these local hospitality venues.
