Is there anything more magical than Christmas? Everything is fresh and exciting, the atmosphere is filled with hopeful anticipation and you get to experience all the nostalgia-filled magic before saying goodbye to the year. Christmas this year is all the more special for Sydneysiders after months of being in lockdown and living in uncertainty. To make this season even more memorable Chef Nelly Robinson of nel. Restaurant is bringing back his incredibly charming and imaginative 11-course Christmas degustation.

“After being in lockdown for so many months, we couldn’t wait to bring some festivities and joy back to Sydney. As a child, Christmas was always one of my favourite times and reliving those memories is something we could all do after the tough year that was 2021. We’ve spent the past months developing our Christmas menu to bring something truly special for our guests this year,” chef Nelly said in a statement.

Highlights of the Christmas degustation

The menu, not surprisingly, is absolutely sublime and Christmas enthusiasts will love the attention to detail and overall execution. This year chef Nelly Robinson is drawing his inspiration from our favourite Christmas movies.

Highlights include the ‘Next Day Dinner’ — a post-Christmas meal that has been reimagined with puffed semolina and coconut mint. You can also look forward to ‘A Little Pudding’ — a spiced pudding marshmallow served with a bonfire along with ‘Naughty Child’ consisting of coconut charcoal shards, black sesame and puffed rice.

Also on offer is the much loved ‘Christmas Crab’ — encapsulating a classic Aussie Christmas with prawns and crabs.


Other highlights include Buddy the Elf’s candy spaghetti made with spinach linguini and topped with Murray Cod and lemon ‘maple syrup’ in an ode to Elf (2003).

The 11-course degustation is an absolute delight to experience and every dish comes with a story brimming with the magic and whimsy of Christmas. The restaurant is also an expert at surprising its diners so you can expect some fun added elements to your dining experience. It should also be noted that the dinner sells out fast so you’ll want to secure a booking asap.
